even more scrap projects

Welcome to finish it up Friday!

I spent most of the day yesterday making little ticker tape coasters for the Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild coaster swap. They were FUN to make and it was a good way to use up some tiny scraps. Each coaster is about 4" square.
I made a set of four for the swap...and a few extras, because I was experimenting with finishing methods. I'm happy to count these as scrap project # 69.
I made this cutie pie little pin cushion for a friend. (Pattern here.) I want to make about 100 more! I love the shape and size of it. It fits perfectly in front of the sewing machine. Genius!  I used scraps for this as well, so it's project #70. (Because I know someone will ask, I used crushed walnut shells to fill it.)
And....the last one for today, another crocheted rag rug. These things work up FAST, which is awesome! (Tutorial here.) I think it turned out even better than the first one. I LOVE it! It's scrap project #71.
Now it's your turn to link up. Thanks, as always, for joining me for finish it up Friday!

I love your rag rug, after I saw the last one I ordered myself a huge crochet hook and once the craft fair is out of the way tomorrow, I shall be straight onto it.

Darling projects! I didn't finish anything this week, but I did have some playtime yesterday making some blocks sorta like your tree trunks(?name?)think I will make a "Crazy Mom Sampler"...these will go with some "slabs" I made awhile ago...who knows what I will "sample" next :) We'll see where the scraps take me!

I am seriously so impressed with all of your scrap finishes. You are an inspiration, my friend. I have been actually SORTING my scraps, because they have been sitting in a (far too large) basket for a while now. That's progress. Right? I'll call it scrap project #1. ;)

I love your Ticker Tape coasters!!! I just recently made a couple Ticker Tape mug rugs and absolutely LOVE the way they turned out. I FMQ'd on top of them after they were all stitched down and absolutely loved the finished design! You are such an amazing source of inspiration for me! Thank you for doing what you do!

Could you say more about the different finishing methods used for those 4" coasters sometime? What worked well and what didn't? I found binding something that size quite a challenge and wasn't altogether happy with the finished product.

I love your scrap projects! So clever - and adorable!

Ooooh! Ticker tape coasters--such a great idea. I've been wanting to try this method and coasters or place mats are the perfect starting point. I also love that pincushion. It strikes me as a perfect one to have next to my machine, for when I've just pinned a large project and have forgotten to bring my pincushion along with me.

margaret said...

certainly they must be tiny scraps in those mats it is hard to picture how small the pieces must be, very nice too

Suzanne said...

How awesome is that pin cushion? Working on a project today I realized I actually cannot have too many pin cushions! I only have two and neither one seems to be in the spot it should be when I need it. :-)

Inquiring minds would like to know where the rag rugs live. xo

I have been saving my scraps in strips to crochet one of your rag rugs. The 40 stitches you first chain on is the actual width of the rug. Can you tell me how these do in the washer? Do you have to take to a commercial washer or can you was them at home in a regular washing machine. I would actually like mine to be about 46" wide by 60 inch long. I love you blog! Love the Ticker Tape quilting. I made a pillow using this method-mine included scrap triangles as well as squares and rectangles and it is so fun! Love the hotpad idea!
